The Cuban @lafamiliajimenez_, who resides in the United States, has moved thousands of people on TikTok after sharing the reconstruction process of the house where she grew up in Cuba, a humble home but full of memories. In the video, she shows the before and after of her parents' home and confesses: “It would have been cheaper to buy a new one, but I preferred to remodel the one I grew up in.”
Amid images of crumbling walls and newly erected ones, the young woman explains that she is completely transforming the family home, while still preserving its essence. “It will take time because nothing of this house will remain in the future. The only old thing that will remain is the family love,” she wrote with excitement. She also mentioned that the house has two kitchens—one of which will be kept as decoration—and that she is building a new laundry room.
In another excerpt, he reflects on what he will feel when he returns to Cuba and finds a completely new home: “Sometimes I think about what I will feel when I return and see that my house is not my house, but I am happy because it is turning out as I dreamed,” he commented, displaying plans and progress of the project.
The video, which quickly went viral, evoked nostalgia for many Cubans inside and outside the island. “This is how it happens to me, it hurts to remodel because the things go away just as one left them,” wrote one follower, while another fondly recalled the porch where they used to study together. The messages were filled with blessings, support, and admiration for their family love.
For @lafamiliajimenez_, this renovation goes beyond aesthetics: it is a way to honor their parents and keep their story alive. Although the walls may change, their message was clear: a true home is built with love, and that never crumbles.
