A young Cuban woman went viral on TikTok after sharing a video of herself breaking down in tears as her mother cut her hair for the first time in seven years.
The clip was posted by the user @adivilloch, who wrote: “Summary of what it was like to cut my hair on my trip to Cuba.”
In the images recorded in a house on the island, a mother and daughter are seen embracing before the cut, visibly emotional. Then, the mother begins to cut her daughter's long braid while she cries, a moment that many described as "incredibly human."
According to the young woman in the comments, she had made a promise not to cut her hair for seven years, and she decided to fulfill it upon her return to Cuba, allowing her mother to perform the symbolic cut. The video also features the phrase: "Not suitable for sensitive viewers."
The gesture evoked the empathy of thousands of users who shared messages of affection and admiration for the connection between mother and daughter and the emotional weight of their reunion. “Only those of us who are far away understand what that hug means,” commented one user.
The video, filmed in Cuba, reflects one of the many everyday stories of Cubans living abroad who return moved to reunite with their family.
