Flights between Miami and Cuba continue to operate despite the severe fuel crisis affecting the island, a spokesperson for Miami International Airport confirmed.

According to Local 10 News, no flights to or from Cuba have been canceled so far, despite the fuel shortage that has caused blackouts, rationing, and serious impacts in various sectors of the country.

The spokesperson explained that the journey between Miami and Cuba is short enough that airlines operating from Miami International Airport do not need to refuel on Cuban territory, which has allowed operations to continue.

The fuel crisis has indeed impacted more distant airlines that rely on refueling at Cuban airports to complete their routes.

This is the case with Air Canada, which suspended its flights to the island after being informed that aviation fuel would not be available.

In Cuba, the fuel shortage has forced the government to impose limits on gasoline sales and to indefinitely suspend the sale in national currency and in dollars at various locations across the country, as disruptions to transportation and daily life continue to escalate.

The situation arises amid the tightening of pressure from the United States on the Cuban regime and the reduction of oil shipments from allied countries, which has deepened the energy crisis the island is experiencing.
