The San Juan Methodist Church, under the leadership of Pastor Darlon Bermúdez, held a solidarity event in Santiago de Cuba, providing medical attention and distributing medications. This once again highlights the crucial role of churches amid the deep health crisis the country is facing.

The initiative, called "Project: The Beloved Doctor," was announced by Bermúdez himself on his account.

"Our Church had the privilege of serving our community, in a collaboration with brothers who donated medication alongside health professionals from our congregation, who provided their services," he explained.

The pastor emphasized that the event was made possible due to the unity of wills within the congregation: faithful members who contributed medications and specialists who offered consultations at no cost.

"Our gratitude to God for those generous hands that made this dream possible. I ask for your prayers that this happens much more frequently," he added.

The shared images depict a scene that has become increasingly essential in today's Cuba: doctors taking blood pressure, examining patients, checking eyesight, and issuing prescriptions.

In several photographs, older individuals can be seen holding the medications they received or waiting for their turn to be attended to.

The turnout highlights the magnitude of the need within the community.

Bermúdez also wanted to make it clear that medical work does not contradict their faith. "None of this invalidates our belief in Divine Healing; rather, it reinforces our confidence that God still cares for our bodies," he concluded in his statement.

In a country where the shortage of basic medications is chronic and hospitals face structural deterioration, lack of supplies, and various limitations, these kinds of actions take on extraordinary importance.

While the state healthcare system faces serious shortcomings that directly impact the most vulnerable sectors, initiatives like those of this church provide tangible and humane relief.

The "Project: The Beloved Doctor" is not an isolated event within the religious sphere in Cuba, but it does serve as a tangible example of how faith communities are taking on social responsibilities in response to the inadequacy of official answers.

In a setting where obtaining medications can turn into an odyssey and many elderly individuals rely on the kindness of others to manage chronic ailments, the event organized by the San Juan Methodist Church embodies hope, organization, and a commitment to helping others.
