A Cuban citizen was apprehended by the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) in a nationwide operation targeting undocumented immigrants with criminal records.

From its profile on X, the White House published a series of messages highlighting that “almost 70% of ICE arrests are of undocumented immigrants accused or convicted of a crime in the United States.” It then listed some of the individuals arrested that week, including nationalities and previous convictions recorded in different states.

In that sequence of tweets, one of the messages includes the Cuban citizen Rigoberto Salvia-Ricardo, described as an undocumented immigrant with a conviction for a crime committed against a minor in Jefferson Parish, Louisiana.

The official publications from the White House highlighted the Cuban alongside other detainees—including a Vietnamese citizen convicted of murder in California and another from Mexico linked to a serious crime in New York—as part of a federal effort to apprehend immigrants with criminal records.

In a statement, the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) indicated that, in addition to these cases, undocumented immigrants with convictions related to major crimes and drug trafficking were also arrested during the operation in several states.

The DHS Deputy Secretary, Tricia McLaughlin, stated that a significant portion of ICE arrests involves individuals accused or convicted of crimes, and she defended the action as part of ongoing efforts to protect public safety.

So far, the authorities have not provided further details about the immigration process that the Cuban citizen will face, nor about the next steps in his case.
