The Cuban content creator Liha López (Lihatne Mariana López Lemus) sparked a heated debate on social media after releasing a video in which she uses a segment of a speech by Fidel Castro to contrast it with the current reality of Cuba.
In the audiovisual, the influencer reproduces the words spoken by the deceased dictator, while interspersing images and reflections on the situation faced by the Cuban people after more than six decades under the same political system.
The contrast between the slogan “enough with words, we need actions” and the current conditions in the country, characterized by scarcity, blackouts, low salaries in Cuban pesos, and mass emigration, is the central focus of the message.
López emphasizes how, while a power elite has maintained control of the country for over 60 years, large segments of the population have ended up in a state of extreme impoverishment.
The video quickly amassed hundreds of thousands of views, with numerous comments calling for freedom and deep changes for the Island.
The publication adds to a wave of critical content circulating inside and outside of Cuba, in a context where more and more young people are expressing frustration over the lack of opportunities and demanding concrete actions for change in Cuba, beyond historical speeches.
