Lis Cuesta, wife of the Cuban leader Miguel Díaz-Canel, shared a brief message on her social media on Monday, accompanied by a video from the Martian Youth Movement.

His text was limited to a phrase: “Long Live Free Cuba!”, without adding comments, analysis, or personal opinions about the video, which argues that José Martí defended the right to think, but there is a difference between that idea and “freedom of thought.”

The author of the video uses a phrase from Martí as a hook and abruptly shifts the topic towards a controversy on social media, after some Cubans request support from the United States to intervene on the island and put an end to the dictatorship.

"No one has the right to request foreign intervention in their own country. That is not thinking; it is surrendering sovereignty," states the audiovisual material.

Cuesta's publications tend to be increasingly sporadic and bland. He focuses on reproducing official messages or echoing statements from Díaz-Canel, without contributing any personal insights.

The new message from the "not first lady of Cuba" comes in a context of intense political debate both inside and outside the country, marked by international pressure, a complex energy situation, rising extreme poverty, and increasing criticism of the regime.

The appeal to sovereignty and the Martian legacy has once again become central to the official discourse, while broad segments of the population are calling for profound changes in Cuba, especially in areas where the government has openly stated it is unwilling to negotiate.
