A Cuban father reported on social media that power outages are also affecting the hospital where his sick daughter is being treated, and he made a desperate plea to obtain a generator so he can return home with her.
“These are the nights we spent with my daughter at the hospital where we are due to a lack of electricity. We are reaching out to anyone who can help so we can go home,” wrote Baysel Acosta Moreno on Facebook.
In his post, he attached a video and images that show the darkness in the Guane hospital.
The youngest, Milena Acosta, six years old, suffers from Lennox-Gastaut syndrome, a severe neurological disorder that causes frequent seizures and limits her mobility and independence. Due to her condition, she relies on medical equipment that requires a constant electricity supply.
According to his father, the power outages not only affect their home but also the hospital itself, which further increases the family's distress.
"Now more than ever, we need that electricity generator. A request from a father, from a family, and from a little girl who wants to come home," he expressed.
Milena Acosta is one of the three girls benefiting from a solidarity campaign on GoFundMe driven by Cuban journalist Mónica Baró Sánchez. The goal is to purchase electric generators that will ensure the continuous operation of medical equipment. So far, the fundraising has reached 4,292 dollars out of a target of 12,500.
A reality that exposes the fragility of the system
Milena's case highlights the impact of the energy crisis in Cuba, which now affects not only homes and businesses but also healthcare institutions.
The girl has been living with her father in the hospital for months due to the inability to stay at home without stable electricity. Amid this precarious situation, Baysel has shared messages filled with pain and love for his daughter, affirming that giving up is not an option.
The lack of electrical support and institutional solutions has forced the family to rely solely on civic solidarity.
In a country where public health is portrayed as a triumph of the system, a girl's life today hinges on obtaining a generator to survive outside a hospital that also falls into darkness.
