The Cuban pitcher Naykel Cruz will not be present at the upcoming World Baseball Classic, after the organization Baltimore Orioles officially confirmed that it will not authorize his participation in the event.

The information was transmitted to the specialized site Pelota Cubana via an email, thus clearing up the doubts that had arisen in recent days regarding the availability of the pitcher to join the Cuban team.

Cruz had already faced a significant obstacle: the denial of health insurance, an essential requirement for players under contract in Major League Baseball to represent their national teams in international tournaments. This situation raised alarms and cast doubt on his participation in the event.

Despite rumors circulating on social media and in some specialized spaces suggesting that the pitcher still intended to do everything possible to attend the Classic, the official stance of the Orioles was decisive. The franchise made it clear that the player would not receive organizational approval, definitively closing the door on his participation.

The absence of the pitcher from Matanzas represents a significant loss, considering his potential and the moment he is experiencing within the Orioles' system. His possible inclusion was viewed as an important reinforcement for the pitching staff, especially in a highly competitive tournament where every arm makes a difference.

The case again highlights the complexities faced by Cuban players signed in MLB when they wish to represent their country in international events, especially regarding insurance, medical authorizations, and decisions made by the organizations.

For now, Naykel Cruz must focus on his preparation with Baltimore for the upcoming season, while the Cuban team adjusts its plans in light of an absence that is now official.
