The Ministry of Transport of Cuba will relax the requirements for obtaining the Transportation Operations License (LOT) for mopeds, motorcycles, and electric tricycles.

The measure, which is exceptional and temporary until December 2026, comes in the context of an intensifying transportation crisis in Cuba due to a lack of fuel.

According to the official media Cubadebate, “it responds to the requests of local authorities and aims to integrate into the transportation system those vehicles currently operating without license plates, a situation that has so far hindered their hiring and organization according to the priorities of each area.”

Interested owners wishing to regularize their registrations must prove the legality of the vehicle and hold a Category A Driver's License.

The granted license will be valid at the municipal level, with the sole exception of Havana, where its coverage will be provincial, the information specifies

For the processing of the registration, the chassis number will be used as a temporary reference.

Once the permit is issued, drivers will be required to carry the license during their journeys to facilitate road checks.

The information adds that regulatory inspection sessions will be organized in provincial capitals and municipalities, thereby facilitating these vehicles to meet the required technical standards.

From this point on, local authorities, in coordination with the license holders, will negotiate the prices of transportation services, which will vary depending on the type of service provided.

The measure had already been approved a few days ago in Holguín for electric tricycles and scooters, with the aim of supporting the transportation of goods and passengers amid the exceptional situation facing the province and the country.
