Authorities from the Government and the Party in Matanzas instructed that each municipality ensure the daily sale of prepared food to cover at least one third of its population, as part of the strategy designed to address the fuel shortage and the energy crisis affecting the country.

The information was published by the official newspaper Girón on its Facebook page, where it was detailed that a provincial analysis evaluated the actions implemented in the territories to mitigate the impact of the shortages.

According to the publication, alternatives such as the use of charcoal in cooking and bread production are being employed to meet the objective. However, the municipal authorities themselves acknowledged that the actions remain insufficient in light of the magnitude of the crisis.

The report also expresses concern over the uncontrollable rise in prices and the growing negative sentiment among the population towards businesses that refuse to accept digital payments.

The authorities insisted that state-owned trading companies must take responsibility for providing affordable options such as croquettes, pizza dough, spaghetti, noodles, cookies, broths, and sweets.

The First Secretary of the Party in the province, Mario Sabines Lorenzo, called for accelerating the distribution of the basic food basket, advancing the establishment of local baskets, and strengthening security in the warehouses, in a context marked by ongoing difficulties in accessing food.

Recently, the Cuban government announced that starting in April, a new method of distributing the regulated family basket will be implemented, based on a principle that could bring about a significant change in the domestic economy of millions of households, as products will no longer be subsidized, but rather individuals.

The measure was announced on February 17 during a session of the Municipal Administration Council of Cotorro, in Havana, led by Governor Yanet Hernández Pérez.
