A young Cuban has gone viral on TikTok after showcasing what she was able to buy with one dollar on the island, which is equivalent to 500 Cuban pesos (CUP) at the unofficial exchange rate.

The video, posted on her account @yaneisycanta_98, simply reflects the limited purchasing power that the population faces amid the economic crisis.

"What can you buy with one dollar in Cuba? That's 500 Cuban pesos. To make it last, we'll go shopping," the young woman begins, documenting her shopping journey.

With that money, he bought a bag of 10 loaves of bread for 300 Cuban pesos, which left his budget at 200 pesos. "Only 200 are left," he comments. With the remainder, he purchased two powdered sodas and two gelatin-type candies.

"With a dollar, I was able to prepare this snack. I don't need to add oil to the bread because I have other things, thank God," she adds in the video while showing the final result: bread accompanied by instant drinks and sweets.

The audiovisual has generated numerous reactions on social media, where many users both inside and outside Cuba commented on the high cost of basic food items and the loss of purchasing power of the Cuban peso.

In a country where the state minimum wage is around 2,100 Cuban pesos per month (approximately 4 dollars at the informal exchange rate), the comparison is striking: one single dollar is barely enough for a simple snack.

The everyday scene depicted in the video illustrates the reality of thousands of families who must juggle to stretch every peso and ensure at least a light meal.
