Two children injured after a ceiling panel fell in a primary school in Havana

Two students were injured this Thursday after a ceiling panel fell in a sixth-grade classroom at the Carlos Hernández Fernández primary school, known as “Chiqui Hernández,” located on Calzada and H, in the Plaza de la Revolución municipality, Havana.

According to the page of Facebook Cuba Noticias, the incident occurred in the morning and the minors were immediately taken to the Juan Manuel Márquez Pediatric Hospital.

One of the children had a wound that required three stitches. Both were subjected to diagnostic tests, the results of which were negative, and they were subsequently discharged.

Authorities on site

Following the incident, the political coordinator of the Communist Party of Cuba (PCC) in the area, the president of the People's Council, and officials from the Municipal Education Directorate visited the school.

According to the information released, actions are being evaluated to prevent similar incidents from occurring again, among them the review of the ceilings in the facility.

The authorities stated that the ceilings of the center "are in good condition," including the one that detached.

So far, no additional details have been provided regarding the specific causes of the incident.
