A violent attack against the headquarters of the Partido Unión por Cuba Libre (PUNCLI) was reported this Friday by the legal organization Cubalex, which alerted about an arson incident at the property located in San Antonio de los Baños, in the province of Artemisa.
According to information received from Cubalex, during the early morning hours, several individuals threw objects onto the roof of the building that serves as the headquarters for the opposition organization, which resulted in a fire.
The people inside the building were alerted by a neighbor who witnessed the incident and managed to extinguish the fire before it caused more serious damage.
According to the report, the alleged perpetrators would be linked to State Security, as they have been seen in the area before participating in surveillance and monitoring operations against activists and opponents.
Cubalex noted that this aggression occurs in a context of systematic harassment against the organization and is part of a pattern of intimidation and threats faced by activists and opposition members in Cuba for peacefully exercising their rights.
The organization also noted that there are images showing the damage to the roof of the house and remnants of the material used to start the fire, and urged potential witnesses or victims of similar incidents to safely reach out to document the case.
