The former president of Ecuador Rafael Correa believes that the U.S. will face “another Vietnam” if it invades Cuba.

An eventual invasion “would be another Vietnam for them,” the leftist politician told EFE, who described the oil blockade imposed by Trump on the Cuban regime as “criminal.”

"Cuba, unlike Venezuela, does not have natural resources and has always been dependent on hydrocarbons. Blocking it is criminal. I see a Cuban people who have always known how to move forward, but the damage is enormous. It's a people who have been left without electricity. What they are doing is criminal," he commented.

Regarding Nicolás Maduro's removal, Correa believes it “should concern anyone” because “at the military level, U.S. technology is decades ahead of the rest.”

"The United States can bomb Cuba, but they will not be able to invade it; that would be another Vietnam for them, and they know that from within, they will not be able to destabilize the regime," he concluded.

On Friday, Trump stated that his administration will begin a "friendly and controlled takeover" of Cuba.

The information was shared by correspondent David Alandete, who reported on his X profile the statement from the leader regarding a "friendly and controlled takeover" of the island.

According to reports, Trump used the phrase “friendly and controlled takeover” to refer to the approach his administration will take regarding Cuba, although the specific details of this initiative have not yet been publicly outlined.

This version was joined by correspondent Juan Esteban Silva, who stated on X that Trump responded directly to him and described Cuba as “a failed nation.”

In his post, Silva wrote that the president stated that the island "misbehaves," that "they have no money or oil," and that "they need the help of the United States."

Silva added that, according to Trump, Secretary of State Marco Rubio "is holding high-level conversations with the regime."

He also stated that the leader told him he has been "hearing about Cuba since he was a child" and that at another moment he reaffirmed that he will begin a "friendly takeover."
