"The culture of Santiago is in mourning. With deep sorrow, we learned of the passing of Radamés Despaigne, artistic director of the Caribe Swing company, a figure recognized for his dedication to dance and his impact on the stages of Santiago de Cuba," Mayeta said on Facebook.

The commentator recalled that Despaigne was "for years a dancer in the city of Santiago, standing out for his discipline, charisma, and passion on stage."

"His talent also led him to work as a choreographer for the popular program Pasea La Placita, where he made his creative mark and trained new generations of dancers," he added.

Despaigne is remembered by "colleagues, students, and friends as an excellent person, always willing to teach, to correct with respect, and to encourage the artistic growth of those around him. More than a director, he was a guide, inspiration, and example both on and off the stage," he said.

"His departure leaves a void in the cultural community, but also a legacy of rhythm, passion, and love for dance that will remain alive in every choreography and in every applause," he concluded.
