The Cuban opposition figure José Daniel Ferrer called for support for the Panamanian citizens recently detained in Havana and defended the actions that, according to the Cuban government, led to his arrest.
Through the social network X, Ferrer wrote: “They put up graffiti and stickers all over Havana, very bravely, and this is something Cubans on the Island should do every day all over Cuba.”
In this regard, he stated that Panamanians took actions to support the Cuban people and believed that their behavior should serve as an example for the Cubans themselves.
"The Panamanians went to do in Cuba what Cubans from within the country and in exile should do every day. They deserve all our support for their bravery and solidarity," wrote the opposition leader.
According to Ferrer, the detainees distributed food and essential goods to the families of political prisoners, opponents, and vulnerable individuals. He also stated that they created graffiti and placed stickers in Havana in support of the democratic cause.
The opposition member called for a campaign to demand the release of the detainees and stated that Cubans, both inside and outside the island, should intensify actions to support the dissent.
The statements come after the Ministry of the Interior (MININT) informed about the arrest of ten Panamanian citizens, accused of engaging in propaganda acts against the constitutional order, a crime defined in Article 124 of the Cuban Penal Code.
Cuban authorities claim that the detainees entered the country with the intention of placing messages deemed subversive and that they had received prior instructions to carry out those actions.
