The interim president of Venezuela, Delcy Rodríguez, thanked Donald Trump for the "kind willingness" of his government to work together on an agenda that —she stated— aims to strengthen bilateral cooperation "for the benefit of the peoples of the United States and Venezuela."
The message was shared on their social media in the context of a public rapprochement between Caracas and Washington, with energy as the central focus.
The acknowledgment took place on the same day that Rodríguez received the U.S. Secretary of the Interior, Doug Burgum, at the Miraflores Palace. Burgum is a senior official with an energy profile, who also leads the National Energy Dominion Council (NEDC), established by the U.S. administration in 2025 to centralize energy policy.
According to the information provided by the media of the Presidency of Venezuela, Burgum —former governor of North Dakota (2016–2024) and technology entrepreneur— arrived in Venezuela and was greeted at the Simón Bolívar International Airport in Maiquetía by Oliver Blanco, Deputy Minister for Europe and North America.
Subsequently, he met with Delcy Rodríguez in Miraflores.
Trump's praise: "oil... is starting to flow."
In parallel, Trump posted on Truth Social a message in which he praised Rodríguez, referring to her as "the president of Venezuela," and stated that she is doing "a great job" and "working very well" with American representatives.
In the same publication, the president stated that Venezuelan oil is "beginning to flow" again and praised the "professionalism and dedication" between the two countries.
Rodríguez recently referred to Trump as "partner and friend," which he presents as a change in tone after years of confrontation between the two administrations.
The Venezuelan spoke about the escalation of violence in the Middle East following joint attacks by the U.S. and Israel against Iran, but—according to the report—she avoided pointing to her new "ally" as responsible.
In a message, he reported on a phone conversation with the Emir of Qatar, Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, during which he expressed solidarity regarding the "serious situation of instability and violence" in the region.
