The Ministry of the Interior of Cuba stated that the United States government has expressed its willingness to cooperate in the investigation of an alleged attempt at terrorist infiltration on the island.
According to an official statement released this Thursday, the Cuban authorities are continuing forensic actions and investigations to clarify the events and determine the responsibility of those involved.
According to the official note from the Ministry of the Interior, last Monday, U.S. authorities communicated through diplomatic channels their willingness to fully cooperate in the investigative process.
Cooperation, according to the statement, could include the exchange of information, evidence, and other joint actions related to the case.
The agency also stated that the statements from the detainees, along with other investigative proceedings, have allowed the gathering of evidence linking them to the events and also pointing to the alleged involvement of other individuals residing in the United States.
Cuban authorities indicated that since the beginning of the process, they have maintained communication with their American counterparts regarding the case.
The Ministry of the Interior stated that, given the seriousness of the events and the threat posed by terrorism, international cooperation is necessary to combat such crimes.
The statement also reported that the injured detainees continue to receive specialized medical care according to the severity of their injuries.
In the case of Roberto Álvarez Ávila, the Ministry of the Interior stated that he passed away this Wednesday as a result of the injuries sustained.
Cuban authorities stated that they will continue to inform the public as the investigative process progresses.
