The Cuban Ministry of the Interior reported this Thursday the death of Roberto Álvarez Ávila, one of the detainees in the case that authorities are investigating as a suspected attempt at terrorist infiltration on the island.

The official entity indicated that the death occurred this Wednesday as a result of the injuries sustained during the events that led to the investigation.

The information was released in a statement from the Ministry of the Interior, which indicates that forensic actions and investigations are ongoing to clarify what happened and determine the responsibility of those involved.

According to the agency, the statements from the detainees have been added to various investigative proceedings that, it claims, strengthen the evidence against them and have allowed the acquisition of new elements related to the case.

The statement also indicates that the investigations point to the alleged involvement of other individuals residing in the United States.

Cuban authorities also stated that they are in communication with their American counterparts regarding the investigative process and that Washington has diplomatically expressed its willingness to cooperate in the investigation.

According to the Ministry of the Interior, this cooperation could include the exchange of information, evidence, and other joint actions.

The organization added that the other injured detainees continue to receive specialized medical attention according to the severity of their injuries, while the investigative process remains ongoing.
