The President of the United States, Donald Trump, stated that he would like to be involved in selecting the next leader of Iran amid the escalation of conflict with that country in the Middle East.
During recent statements, Trump pointed out that his goal would be to prevent the future Iranian leadership from leading the country back into war.
"Yes, I don't want to have to come back in ten years. We want a president who won't lead his country to war," said the leader when asked about the future Iranian leadership.
The statements come as military tensions in the region persist and Washington claims to have significantly weakened the capabilities of the Iranian government.
This Saturday, the Iranian president, Masoud Pezeshkian, announced the suspension of bombings against neighboring countries and apologized to those nations, which he referred to as "brothers," but categorically rejected the unconditional surrender demanded by Donald Trump.
Following these statements, the U.S. president said that Iran had surrendered, but that information has not been confirmed.
This afternoon, he was asked whether the recent deaths of Americans would change his stance regarding the possible deployment of troops in the conflict.
The president did not confirm that he is considering sending additional military forces, although he defended the actions taken so far.
"We are winning the war by a wide margin. We have decimated their entire evil empire. Surely it will continue for a while longer... but the war is going incredibly well, as well as it could be going," he stated.
Trump also expressed his recognition of the American victims and their families.
"I am very proud of those people. The parents were very proud of their son, of their young daughter," he noted.
The day before, Trump stated that he was not interested in whether Iran becomes a democratic state, "what he seeks is a leadership that treats the United States, Israel, and Washington's allies in the Middle East well."
