The acting president of Venezuela, Delcy Rodríguez, sent a direct message to the President of the United States, Donald Trump, on Saturday, in which she defended dialogue as the way to resolve the differences between both countries, amid the recent diplomatic rapprochement between Washington and Caracas.
Through the social network X, the Venezuelan leader stated that the restoration of diplomatic relations between both governments represents an acknowledgment of the South American country and reiterated her administration's willingness to work with the United States.
“President @RealDonaldTrump, we receive this decision as a recognition of the people of Venezuela and their just cause for the truth of our country,” Rodríguez wrote on his official account.
The official added that her government is willing to move towards a stable relationship with Washington based on principles of cooperation and mutual respect.
"We reiterate our willingness to build long-term relationships based on mutual respect, equality, and international law, with the aim of promoting a work agenda that strengthens cooperation for the benefit of both countries," he noted.
Rodríguez concluded his message with a phrase that encapsulates the tone of the new diplomatic moment between Caracas and Washington: "We reaffirm that diplomatic dialogue is the virtuous path to resolve our differences and advance our commonalities."
The statements come just a day after the Venezuelan government announced the reestablishment of diplomatic and consular relations with the United States following direct contacts between both administrations. Foreign Minister Yván Gil reported that the decision was made after discussions with authorities in Washington and with the interim Executive led by Rodríguez.
The rapprochement occurs in an unprecedented political context for Venezuela. Just two months ago, former ruler Nicolás Maduro was captured during a U.S. military operation in Caracas, which opened a process of political transition in the country.
Since then, Washington has officially recognized the government led by Rodríguez and has initiated contacts to promote energy, trade, and cooperation agreements aimed at stabilizing the Venezuelan situation and supporting its economic recovery.
The new tone in relations between both countries marks a shift from years of political confrontation and sanctions, and could usher in a phase of cooperation as Venezuela undergoes a complex process of institutional reorganization.
