Amid the blackouts affecting many areas of Cuba, a Cuban woman has shared on TikTok how she manages to get by in her daily life. Her video, simple yet very genuine, has resonated with thousands of people who see a routine that is becoming increasingly common on the island.
The user @elianys.echazabal, a content creator on the platform, reported that she had been without electricity for over 40 hours, a situation that not only complicates daily tasks but also affects something as basic as preserving food.
“More than 40 hours without electricity and we keep adding up,” he comments in the video, while showing how he cleans the refrigerator after discovering that some of the food had spoiled. He explained that a chicken thigh he had stored ended up going bad due to the power outage.
Even so, she decided not to remain idle. She started organizing her day early and put some beans on to cook to get a head start on lunch and dinner. She even called her father to come eat at her house, since he also had no way to cook. “He doesn’t have gas or charcoal,” she said.
Beyond the difficulty of the moment, Elianys also wanted to convey a message of attitude. She explained that she decided to invest in social media as her way of working and that, even amidst the blackouts, she tries to continue creating content.
His video has generated many supportive reactions. For many users, it represents more than just an ordinary scene; it reflects the ability of Cubans to adapt and solve problems even when conditions are far from ideal.
