Cuban residents in the city of Cape Coral, in southwest Florida, took to the streets on Sunday to demand freedom for Cuba during a peaceful demonstration organized by community members.

Journalist Javier Díaz reported on Facebook that the protest gathered Cubans living in that area of the state, where the community from the island has significantly grown in recent years.

According to what he explained, cities like Naples, Fort Myers, Cape Coral, and Lehigh Acres have seen an increase in the presence of Cubans who have settled there after emigrating from the island.

The Cuban opposition leader José Daniel Ferrer also attended the demonstration, where he expressed his support for the organizers and participants of the initiative on Facebook.

"Yesterday we went to Cape Coral to support many patriotic Cubans who organized a demonstration for the freedom of Cuba," wrote Ferrer on his Facebook account.

The opposition member also emphasized that the protest took place without incidents and praised the organization of the event.

"Everything was very well organized and not a single provocateur or troublemaker, like those that the regime has infiltrated in the exile," he stated.

The mobilization reflects the growing political activity of the Cuban community in that area of southwestern Florida, where more and more residents are participating in public initiatives to denounce the situation on the island and call for political changes.

Similarly, dozens of Cubans and supporters gathered this Sunday along Dixie Highway in Louisville, Kentucky, to denounce the crisis currently affecting Cuba and demand political change on the island.

The protest, covered by the local television channel WLKY, gathered members of the Cuban community who raised their voices against the communist system and called for free elections, greater opportunities, and respect for citizens' rights.
