The Cuban duo Gente de Zona released a powerful message about the situation in Cuba on Tuesday and urged the world to pay attention to the crisis the country is facing.

In a post shared on Instagram, the artists stated that “it is time to once again turn our gaze towards what the people of Cuba are going through at this moment and let the whole world know.”

The musicians reported that the island is experiencing difficult days marked by prolonged blackouts, food shortages, and increasing hardship, situations that force many people to stand in long lines to obtain basic goods.

"Blackouts that leave entire neighborhoods in darkness. Families standing in long lines for food that isn't enough. People searching for food and clothing in the trash to survive," they noted in the message.

The duo also mentioned reports of repression and fear in the streets, while highlighting the resilience of Cubans in the face of everyday challenges.

“Today, the reality cannot be ignored. The island needs light. It needs hope. It needs dignity,” they added.

In their statement, the artists also issued a direct criticism of the Cuban political system, asserting that "it has been more than 67 years of a failed system" that, they said, has brought hunger, censorship, and misery.

The message concludes with a call to highlight the situation on the island and a clear slogan: “Down with the dictatorship!”

The post was accompanied by several images that highlight the precariousness experienced by Cubans, as well as examples of repression by the regime against civil society.
