Marta Perdomo Benítez, mother of political prisoners Jorge and Nadir Martín Perdomo, sent an emotional message to her son Jorge Martín on the occasion of his 43rd birthday, once again highlighted by his absence from the family home.
The message was posted by Perdomo herself on her Facebook account, where she recalled that the family should be gathered to congratulate him at midnight, but the imprisonment imposed by the Cuban regime prevents this.
"Today, March 11, my son Jorge Martín turns 43 years old. We should have been at home waiting for midnight to congratulate him, but unfortunately, this regime that doesn’t want anyone to think differently has imprisoned them in dungeons," he wrote.
The mother also expressed her pride in the resilience of her children, who were imprisoned after participating in the protests on July 11, 2021, in San José de las Lajas, Mayabeque.
"We are very proud of you and your brother for your resilience and honesty," added Perdomo, who also expressed his hope to celebrate the next birthday with family.
"We trust in God that for your next birthday we will be together as a family and you will return to our home from which you should have never left," he concluded.
Jorge and Nadir Martín Perdomo were arrested on July 17, 2021, after participating in the historic protests of July 11 in San José de las Lajas, Mayabeque, and were sentenced to six and eight years in prison, respectively.
Since then, her mother has become one of the most prominent voices in denouncing the situation of political prisoners in Cuba.
Sentenced to six and eight years in prison respectively, they have become symbols of the repression against the young people of Cuba who are peacefully expressing themselves.
Her mother has since maintained a constant public outcry despite the threats from the regime.
