The Cuban activist and professor Anamely Ramos questioned this Friday the lack of transparency in the official information regarding the release of 51 individuals who were imprisoned.

In this regard, he emphasized that there is still no confirmation that recognized political prisoners such as Luis Manuel Otero Alcántara and Maykel Osorbo are among those benefiting.

During a live broadcast on Facebook, Ramos explained that the news was announced on the Cuban Television News while she was conducting her own broadcast. However, she denounced that, as has happened on previous occasions, the authorities did not disclose the list of names or the conditions of the release.

We need to stay alert to the information, but also be ready to act in case this is another maneuver by the dictatorship, stated the activist.

Ramos also pointed out that the announcement creates particular anguish among the families of political prisoners, who still do not know if their loved ones will be granted advantages or if the process will truly lead to their release.

Among the cases that remain surrounded by uncertainty, he mentioned that of the artist and activist Luis Manuel Otero Alcántara, leader of the San Isidro Movement, who has been imprisoned since 2021 following the protests and actions that made him one of the most prominent figures of cultural dissent on the island.

It also highlighted the situation of the musician Maykel Castillo Pérez, known as Maykel Osorbo, co-author of the song "Patria y Vida" and a political prisoner since 2021.

According to Ramos, the rapper is currently incarcerated in Kilo 8 prison in Pinar del Río, where he was transferred at the end of January.

The activist insisted that, so far, there is no information confirming that either of the two artists is included in the process announced by the regime.

"We are in the same situation as you, without certainties," he said, while urging caution regarding the proliferation of rumors and conflicting reports about possible releases.

Ramos stated that the release of political prisoners and the dismantling of the repressive system should be initial conditions for any genuine process of change in Cuba.

In his view, any economic or political announcement would lack credibility if it is not accompanied by the release of those who have been imprisoned precisely for demanding reforms and freedoms in the country.

The doubts expressed by the activist arise in a context of strong uncertainty, after the regime announced the release of 51 individuals deprived of their liberty without revealing their identities or clarifying whether any of them are political prisoners.

Human rights organizations have warned that the first verified releases correspond to demonstrators from July 11, 2021, who were released from prison under probation, which means that their sentences remain in effect and that the benefit could be revoked.

In this context, the situation of emblematic figures of the opposition movement, such as Otero Alcántara and Maykel Osorbo, remains one of the main focal points for activists and families of political prisoners on the island.
