The authorities of the municipality of Guantánamo announced temporary restrictions on the operating hours of bars and night recreation centers due to the electricity crisis affecting the country.

The information was published on the official Facebook profile of the local government, Mi Guantánamo, where it was explained that the measure aims to contribute to savings and the rational use of energy in light of the complex situation of the electrical system.

According to the regulation, establishments that depend on the National Electroenergetic System must cease their activities no later than midnight.

In the case of establishments equipped with photovoltaic panel systems or other renewable energy sources that allow them to operate without consuming electricity from the national grid, their operating hours may be extended until 2:00 AM, provided their self-generation capacity is verified.

The measure applies to both economic actors in the state sector and the non-state sector, including small and medium-sized enterprises, self-employed workers, cooperatives, and other forms of management.

The authorities clarified that night recreational centers are those establishments whose main activities take place at night and that offer services such as the sale of beverages, music, dancing, or other forms of entertainment.

They also warned that the inspection and control bodies will ensure compliance with the provision and that measures will be taken against those who violate the established regulations.

The local government called for understanding and discipline from economic actors in light of the restrictions, amid an energy crisis that has caused prolonged power outages in various regions of the country.

Meanwhile, the Cuban opposition leader José Daniel Ferrer denounced a heavy police presence and acts of repression against young people in several cities in the eastern part of the country, including Guantánamo, amidst rising social tension.

Ferrer reported on social media that a significant presence of forces from the Ministry of Interior was observed in Santiago de Cuba around the Provincial Court, as well as at the provincial and municipal headquarters of the Communist Party and other state institutions. This is a strategy by the regime to protect its institutions following the protests that took place this Friday in Morón, Ciego de Ávila.
