The Iranian regime confirmed on Tuesday the death of Gholamreza Soleimani, commander of the Basij paramilitary militia, a force closely linked to the Revolutionary Guard and noted for its role in suppressing civil protests.

According to reports from Iranian official media, Soleimani died amid the recent bombings in the country, although no additional details were provided about the exact circumstances of the attack.

Hours earlier, the Israeli Army had announced the death of the high command, stating that he was killed in “a precise attack” by the air force in Tehran, as reported by the agency EFE.

Soleimani had been in charge of the Basij militia for six years, a paramilitary force used by the Iranian regime to control demonstrations, suppress internal dissent, and reinforce the security of the political system.

The Basij has been widely condemned by human rights organizations for its involvement in the repression of protests, arbitrary detentions, and the use of force against civilians.

The confirmation of his death comes amid the escalating conflict in the region, with exchanges of attacks that have heightened tensions between Iran and Israel and raised international concerns.

In the context of Operation Epic Fury, Israel had already announced in the morning the death in an airstrike in Tehran of two key figures in the Iranian regime's security apparatus: Ali Larijani, Secretary of the Supreme National Security Council, and Gholamreza Soleimani.

According to a statement from the Israeli army, the operation was carried out with precise military intelligence and aimed to weaken the internal control structure of the regime.

So far, Iranian authorities have not provided information regarding possible replacements for the leadership of the militia nor have they detailed the operational impact of Soleimani's death.
