Donald Trump posted a cryptic message on X this Sunday that generated enormous anticipation: "Tuesday, 8:00 P.M. Eastern Time", without any further explanation.
The context almost certainly points to Iran. This Sunday, Trump posted an explicit threat on Truth Social: "Tuesday will be Power Plant Day and Bridge Day, all in one, in Iran. There will be nothing like it! Open the damn Strait, you crazy people, or you will live in hell. Just wait!"
Trump set a deadline of Monday, April 6th at 9 p.m. Eastern Time for Iran to reopen the Strait of Hormuz, under the threat of attacks on power plants and bridges.
The ultimatum is part of the Epic Fury Operation, the joint military offensive by the United States and Israel against Iran that began on February 28, 2026, which has destroyed 90% of Iranian missiles and 95% of its drones, and has eliminated 49 high-ranking military officials, including the Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei.
Iran responded to the offensive by closing the Strait of Hormuz on March 4th using mines, drones, and missiles, blocking the passage of 20% of the world’s oil and liquefied natural gas, stranding around 2,000 ships with 20,000 sailors, and pushing crude prices above 115 dollars per barrel.
This Sunday, Trump also confirmed a massive attack on Tehran, posting a nighttime video with explosions on Truth Social and claiming that "many of Iran's military leaders have been eliminated".
The president also announced the rescue of two American pilots whose F-15E aircraft was shot down over Iranian territory on April 4, and called for a press conference in the Oval Office for Monday.
Despite the bellicose tone, Trump stated in an interview with Fox News that he sees a "good possibility" of an agreement with Iran before Monday, pointing out that Tehran is currently negotiating. He also warned: "If they don't reach a quick agreement, I'm considering destroying everything and taking control of the oil."
Tuesday's announcement could be a national address regarding the outcome of the ultimatum, either to inform that Iran has complied or to confirm the promised attacks on critical Iranian infrastructure.
Cuba also appears as a latent topic on the agenda of Trump. The president has repeated phrases like "Cuba is next," and Secretary of State Marco Rubio anticipated "news soon" about the island in an interview with Fox News on April 1, although the immediate focus of the administration is clearly on the conflict with Iran.
On April 1, Trump had already addressed the nation regarding the war with Iran, estimating that the operations would conclude in two or three weeks, which would place the outcome exactly in the coming days.
