The Antonio Guiteras Thermal Power Plant (CTE), the largest and most important in the country, successfully synchronized this Tuesday with the National Electroenergetic System (SEN), marking a key step in the recovery process following the widespread blackout that affected all of Cuba.
According to official reports shared on social media by Periódico Girón and profiles linked to the plant itself, the unit came online after completing its startup process, which included igniting the boiler and switching fuel from diesel to crude.
Hours earlier, authorities had reported that the thermoelectric plant was in the startup phase and that its synchronization was expected after midday, which ultimately took place during the day.
The incorporation of Guiteras into the SEN represents a decisive element for increasing electricity generation, in a context where the system continues to operate under severe limitations following the collapse that occurred on Monday.
However, despite this progress, the energy situation across the country remains critical. The recovery of the electrical service is progressing gradually and unevenly, with large areas still without electricity and no clear timeline for complete restoration.
Specialists agree that the commissioning of Guiteras can partially alleviate the generation deficit, but it does not resolve the structural problems of the SEN, marked by the deterioration of thermoelectric plants, lack of maintenance, and fuel shortages.
The massive blackout once again highlighted the fragility of the Cuban electrical system, which is under constant pressure from high demand and insufficient generation capacity, a crisis that continues to directly affect the daily lives of millions of citizens.
