Cuban-American businessman Iván Herrera, executive director and founder of Univista Insurance, one of the most recognized insurance companies in the United States, asserted that entrepreneurs based in that country will not invest in Cuba as long as there are no conditions of freedom.
In a video posted on his Instagram profile, Herrera stated that his remarks reflect the views of numerous experienced exile entrepreneurs, who agree that there will be no investment on the Island until a political change occurs that guarantees rights and security for the citizens.
“The exiles, and I take the liberty to speak for many, because I know some great businesspeople here, who had been working for decades even before I arrived, but I know many entrepreneurs who respect each other, and there will not be a single cent of investment from American businesspeople in Cuba until Cubans are free,” stated this businessman, who in the past expressed his admiration for the entrepreneurs on the island.
The executive also accused the regime of deceiving investors from various parts of the world, claiming that many have lost money and projects after trusting in opportunities within the country.
"They have deceived many people, not only from here, not just from exile, but from all over the world and of all nationalities, whom they have robbed of their money, their job aspirations, and a lifetime of investments," he stated.
Herrera questioned how, despite that history, new investment opportunities in Cuba are being promoted again and deemed that practice unacceptable.
"To request investments once again. However, you are thieves, you are shameless, you are unwelcome people, even in Cuba," he added.
In his final message, he made a direct appeal to the ruling elite to relinquish power.
"I invite the entire dictatorship to leave, to get on a boat and go before it's too late. Long live a free Cuba," he concluded.
In essence, the Cuban-American entrepreneur questioned the recent economic reforms promoted by the regime and warned that they will not resolve the crisis without profound political transformations.
