Cuban-American Congresswoman Nicole Malliotakis stated that the future of Cuba depends on a profound political change that allows for the establishment of a democratic system and ensures freedoms for its citizens.

Malliotakis, representative for New York's 11th district, stated in an interview that for decades Cubans have awaited transformations that have yet to materialize, and emphasized that the end of the regime is an essential condition for any real progress in the country.

"Cubans have been waiting for 67 years. In the end, what they really want is for this communist regime that destroyed their lives, that stole their businesses and homes, to disappear," he expressed.

The legislator also questioned the viability of foreign investments in the Island under the current system, considering that there are no legal guarantees or security for investors.

"Anyone who invests in Cuba under the current conditions, with a manipulated legal system and a communist regime, would be a fool," he stated.

Malliotakis also shared a personal experience, recalling that her family was a victim of expropriations in Cuba. “This is a regime that, for example, took away my grandfather's small business, his gas station, and also his home,” she recounted.

In his statements, he outlined possible scenarios for the country's future, including the option of transforming into a free nation or even adopting a model similar to that of Puerto Rico, although he acknowledged that there are divided opinions within the Cuban-American community.

Finally, he expressed optimism about a possible transition in Cuba that includes the departure of Miguel Díaz-Canel, the formation of political parties, and the holding of free and fair elections.

"I hope that we will soon see a free and prosperous Cuba. I have hope that my mother will live to witness that day and that Cubans can celebrate the return to their homeland," he concluded.

Another Cuban, in this case entrepreneur Iván Herrera, executive director and founder of Univista Insurance —one of the most recognized insurance companies in the United States— stated that businessmen based in that country will not invest in Cuba until there are conditions of freedom.

In a video posted on her Instagram profile, Herrera stated that her remarks reflect the views of numerous experienced exiled entrepreneurs, who agree that there will be no investment in the Island until a political change occurs that guarantees rights and safety for citizens.

“The exiles, and I take the liberty to speak for many, because I know very good businessmen here, who had been here for decades even before I arrived, but I know many businessmen who earn each other’s respect, and there will not be a single cent of investment from American entrepreneurs in Cuba until Cubans are free,” stated this businessman, who in the past expressed his admiration for entrepreneurs on the island.

In essence, the Cuban-American entrepreneur questioned the recent economic reforms promoted by the regime and warned that they will not resolve the crisis without profound political transformations.
