The comedian Ulises Toirac has once again made a strong impact on Facebook after publishing a lengthy analysis of the crisis facing Cuba, in which he directly blames the government's internal decisions for the economic and social collapse.
In his message, Toirac not only describes the severity of the current moment, but also dismantles one of the most recurring arguments in the official discourse: the notion that the problems of the Island are solely due to external factors, specifically the United States.
"The decisions of another government belong to another government. The decisions of this government are the ones that set the economy on fire," he stated clearly.
A crisis with deep roots
The artist recalled that the deterioration is not recent, but rather the result of years of misguided policies that have progressively weakened the country's productive system.
In his opinion, even during times when Cuba received external economic support, the decisions made did not manage to build a sustainable foundation.
Toirac noted that, although tensions with the United States impact the situation, they cannot be used as an excuse to justify all internal problems.
Errors in the energy sector
One of the most compelling points of his analysis focuses on the electric power system, which is essential for the functioning of the entire economy.
The comedian listed decisions that contributed to the current deterioration: the closure of sugar mills that could provide energy to the electrical system, the proliferation of generators with high maintenance costs, and the failed investment of billions in the Juraguá nuclear power plant.
Additionally, he criticized the use of heavier national crude in the power plants, which affects the machinery, and the neglect of maintenance and modernization of the thermoelectric plants.
According to the explanation, these errors have had a ripple effect, impacting not only electricity generation but the entire national production.
Living conditions at the limit
Ulises also described the everyday reality of Cubans with a straightforward and unembellished tone.
"Today, the living conditions of the majority are more than deplorable," he wrote.
He emphasized that the situation in rural areas is especially dire, although the deterioration is spreading throughout the country, and even basic activities or small businesses are becoming unviable due to a lack of resources.
"It is not even possible to maintain a life with hardships," he warned.
A closed system to criticism
Beyond economic problems, the artist pointed to the political structure as a central factor in the crisis.
He criticized the lack of spaces for citizen participation and questioned a model that does not allow for debate or dissent.
"The point we are at is frankly unsustainable, and the blame lies in not listening, not allowing participation, suppressing differing opinions, and creating a structure of popular power that is neither popular nor powerful," he insisted.
For Toirac, one of the major problems has been the refusal to listen to differing opinions and the tendency to automatically validate decisions within official structures.
That closure, he said, has prevented timely correction of mistakes and has contributed to deepening the crisis.
Protests with real causes
The comedian also addressed the recent protests occurring in various parts of the country, making it clear that they are not motivated by shallow reasons.
"People are not protesting out of festive desire," he/she pointed out.
According to the explanation, the discontent has deep roots in the living conditions faced by millions of Cubans, characterized by scarcity, blackouts, and a lack of prospects.
"They are conditions that surpass the most basic survival. And I'm not exaggerating," he stated.
