The Cuban influencer Leyla González, with over 700,000 followers on Instagram, posted a reel in which she departs from her usual content to highlight the humanitarian crisis facing Cuba and call for an end to the dictatorship.
"Today I want to make a different video. This is not the content I usually create, but there are moments when one cannot stay silent," González said.
In the reel, the influencer born in Havana in 1998 starkly describes the reality of the island. "In Cuba, there are families suffering from hunger. People who go more than 40, 50, 60 hours without electricity, and when the power comes back, it's just for a little while."
It also denounces hospitals lacking resources, streets filled with garbage, and the repression against those who dare to demonstrate: "There are thousands of people detained for speaking out. Young people imprisoned for expressing how they feel. There are content creators arrested for exposing the reality they live in."
Leyla made it clear why she decided to use her platform: "I have reach, I have a voice, I have a fairly large community, and I believe this is a very important issue."
The influencer appealed to the human dimension of the problem: "Cuba doesn't need discussions. Cuba needs the world to look, for the world to listen, for the world to understand that this is no longer a political issue, it's now a human issue."
"I truly believe that Cuba will be free soon. What we need right now is unity. Down with the dictatorship. It's time for change now. Long live a free Cuba!" he expressed.
