The disappearance of Giovani Rafael Lorenzo Álvarez, a 54-year-old man residing in Trinidad, has kept his family on edge for almost three weeks, in a case that reflects both the personal drama and the lack of effective responses to such situations in Cuba.

According to a report by the user Guillermo Rodríguez Sánchez on Facebook, the man left his home on February 28 at around 8:00 am with the intention of running daily errands, but he never returned. Since then, there has been no news regarding his whereabouts.

"A daughter has been desperately crying out for her dad for 20 days, a whole family has been mourning a good man for three weeks now; anguish and despair are consuming them," she wrote.

The message also reflects the total uncertainty surrounding the case: "No one knows anything, no one saw anything, the Police haven't given any clues about his whereabouts either. It's as if the earth has swallowed him up."

The passage of days without information has deepened the despair.

"The family of this man pleads for the community to have compassion for the pain they are enduring and to share this information... even the slightest bit of help, such as a brief sighting, can be a ray of hope," the post states, which includes the phone number 58255999 to receive any information that may assist in locating him.

A sustained search driven by pain and persistence

Since the early days of the disappearance, the family has turned to social media as the main avenue to raise awareness about the case.

One of his daughters, Lorena Lorenzo Gómez, was the one who made the first public call just a few days after the disappearance. In her message, she explained that her father left one Saturday morning and his phone stopped showing activity that night.

He was riding his purple Missile motorcycle, wearing red shorts and black and red sneakers; his last connection time was at 9:23 PM, since then his mobile phone has been turned off, he noted.

He also emphasized that this is not typical behavior: he usually does not go missing without notifying anyone, nor does he leave his animals unattended, or disappear for long periods.

Giovani Rafael Lorenzo is the father of three daughters, the son of elderly parents and well-known in his community. "We are desperate, we implore you to help us find him," wrote his eldest daughter.

As the days go by, Lorena has continued to post and update information in an effort to keep the case visible and to prevent institutional silence from relegating the disappearance to oblivion.

Families alone in the face of uncertainty

Cases like this highlight an increasingly common reality in Cuba: in the absence of concrete results from the authorities, the relatives of missing persons end up taking it upon themselves to carry out the search.

Social media has become a fundamental tool - and often the only one - for disseminating faces, information, and urgent requests. On digital platforms, acquaintances share photographs, descriptions, and phone numbers, directly appealing to the public for any leads.

This dynamic reveals not only the emotional anguish faced by families but also the additional burden of having to organize, sustain, and amplify the search without effective support.

The lack of official information or visible progress forces each publication to become a desperate attempt to generate attention and collaboration.

In this scenario, the community plays a crucial role. Citizens, social media users, independent journalists, and even public figures become improvised allies, sharing information and keeping cases active.

However, behind each post lies a story of prolonged uncertainty, where time works against us and answers do not arrive.

The disappearance of Giovani Rafael Lorenzo Álvarez is, today, yet another case within a reality that leaves many families facing the search for their loved ones alone.
