The province of Villa Clara remains largely in the dark following the new collapse of the National Electric System, which occurred yesterday at 6:32 PM.

The blackout, the second complete one in just a few days, left most residents without electricity, and the restoration of service is happening partially and gradually.

According to the station CMHW, as of 7:30 a.m. today, only 41 MW had been restored and service was reaching 56 of the more than 200 circuits in the province, approximately a quarter of the total supply.

So far, all municipalities, except for Corralillo and Ranchuelo, have power only to maintain the operation of strategic facilities.

The hospitals in Santa Clara, as well as those in Sagua la Grande, Caibarién, and Placetas, have electricity, just like the water supply systems in Palmarito and Minerva Ochoita.

Yadier Ruiz, director of the Cargo Office in Villa Clara, clarified that at this time, there are no rotations of the circuits and that the overall recovery depends on the start-up of several Cuban thermoelectric plants, especially unit 3 of the Carlos Manuel de Céspedes power station, which is currently in the commissioning process.

Like the rest of the country, the province is facing a situation of structural fragility within the SEN, exacerbated by accumulated breakdowns and fuel shortages, which means that any failure could lead to a total collapse.

The electric crisis keeps the population in growing uncertainty, affecting not only domestic supply but also essential services such as hospitals, drinking water, and food refrigeration.

Social media users report discomfort and protests in various municipalities, reflecting the tension created by the prolonged energy crisis. Recovery in Villa Clara is progressing slowly, and the general service could take hours or days, while the National Electricity System operates at the limit of its capacity.
