The opposition leader José Daniel Ferrer García ridiculed and dismantled this week the warmongering rhetoric of the Cuban regime, targeting singer-songwriter Silvio Rodríguez as the main focus, following the recent incident in which the 79-year-old troubadour received a rifle from the Ministry of the Revolutionary Armed Forces (MINFAR).

“Silvio, what is that, Silvio? Where are you going with that, Silvio? You don't even know how to use it. And who are you going to shoot at, a Tomahawk? My God, Silvio, for God's sake. They didn't even give you a new AK. They gave you an old AK,” Ferrer mocked in a video posted on Facebook.

Ferrer labeled Rodriguez as an "idiot," "a useful fool in the service of tyranny," and "cowardly, craven, and extremely hypocritical" for participating in the scene.

With irony, he suggested that the regime might have given him a useless weapon: "Maybe they gave you one from a museum."

"Silvio, don’t take war lightly; war is a very serious matter," he added.

Ferrer also mentioned an official from the province of Granma who appeared in a video running with an AK rifle as part of the official propaganda.

He also took aim at Rafael Correa, former president of Ecuador, who stated on March 1 that an American intervention would be "another Vietnam."

"What Vietnam of what thing, Rafaelito?" he said, mocking the former president's statement.

The opposition leader was emphatic in separating propaganda from reality: "War is a very serious matter. Don't make a joke out of wars, don't take them lightly. Speak a little more seriously, behave yourselves."

"Wars must always be avoided. They are never good, but when cancer leaves no other option, surgery, excision, and chemotherapy are required, and that would be what should be done in the case of Cuba if those in power do not understand that their time is up. If they do not leave, they need to be removed," he added.

However, Ferrer dismissed the idea that the upcoming scenario in Cuba would be a conventional military conflict.

"There will be no war; what will happen is a surgical operation if they do not relinquish power.", he specified, comparing the regime to a "cancer" that kills the Cuban people with hunger, misery, and repression.

Ferrer described him as a "corrupt former president and fugitive" who frequents the studios of Russia Today.

Ferrer’s video comes amid escalating tensions between Washington and Havana.

The Deputy Foreign Minister Carlos Fernández de Cossío declared last Sunday in NBC News that the Cuban army "is always prepared and, in fact, is preparing these days for the possibility of military aggression."

Díaz-Canel, for his part, has warned that "any external aggressor will face an impenetrable resistance."
