The United States Secretary of State, Marco Rubio, stated that his priority is the American people and not other countries, while defending a foreign policy focused on national interests.
During recent statements to the press, published by the State Department on its X profile, Rubio made it clear that he is not seeking to please foreign governments.
"I'm not here to make you happy. The people I'm interested in making happy are Americans. I work for them," he stated.
The official emphasized that their role is to represent the United States on the international stage, although they maintain working relationships with other countries.
"I am here on behalf of the United States. I get along well with everyone on a personal level, but I work for my country," he stated.
Rubio also addressed the role of Washington in international conflicts, noting that the United States has taken on a significant burden, particularly in the war in Ukraine, compared to other countries.
Additionally, he questioned the international response to threats like those from Iran to global trade, arguing that other actors should take stronger action in defense of international law.
"It's not about help for us. As I said, very little of our energy comes from the Strait of Hormuz. It's the world that has a great interest in that. And that's why they must step up and take responsibility," he emphasized.
The statements reinforce a foreign policy line that prioritizes American interests in a global context marked by geopolitical tensions and open conflicts.
