A video posted on TikTok by a Dominican mother has gone viral by capturing the exact moment she tells her young son that she will be going with her to the United States, and the child’s reaction, a mix of disbelief and overwhelming joy, has captivated millions on social media.
The clip was posted on February 5 by the account @ela0224_, identified as Elafit, and has accumulated 3.2 million views, 422,700 likes, 8,844 comments, and 14,000 shares, making it one of the most emotional family reunions that have circulated on social media in recent months.
Everything begins when the mother says to the child: "You are coming with me". The child's response is immediate and incredulous: "Mommy, no, it’s a lie." The boy repeats the phrase over and over, unable to comprehend that the news he had been waiting for was real.
The mother, far from giving up, insists with tenderness and firmness, "What is a lie? You are coming with me. Your visa has arrived. It's true, it's true, it's true." Only then does the little one begin to understand that this is not a joke.
This type of video reflects the reality of thousands of Dominican families separated by migration. According to recent data, during 2025 the United States repatriated nearly 4,000 Dominicans, and in the first months of 2026, more than 400 had already been returned, highlighting the magnitude of the migratory phenomenon affecting these communities.
Stories like this remind us of those of other mothers who return to see their children or bring them together after years of separation, moments that profoundly move those who witness them.
