Susely Morfa González, the misguided first secretary of the Communist Party of Cuba (PCC) in Villa Clara, posted a message on her X account detailing her visit to communities in Caibarién aboard an electric tricycle, which she framed as a gesture of reaching out to the people.
We visited several centers and communities in Caibarién, riding an electric tricycle, a driver shows his solidarity. We will engage with the community, meet with the youth, and visit various social centers, he stated in his message posted on X.
The post quickly generated reactions among Cubans, who pointed out the contrast between the official's gesture and the everyday reality of transportation on the island.
This is not the first time Morfa González has resorted to gestures like these to project an image of closeness to the population.
Just days ago, the official promoted a free charging station for mobile phones as a gesture of solidarity, an initiative that was also met with skepticism by many Cubans.
Morfa González is known as the millionaire psychologist since the Summit of the Americas, when she claimed that the official delegation had paid for their tickets with their "savings."
Before taking on the role in Villa Clara, she was replaced and transferred to the Department of Attention to the Social Sector in Matanzas, which was interpreted as a repositioning within the Party apparatus.
