The presence of plainclothes State Security agents marked the Good Friday pilgrimage in Havana, where, according to reports, an operation was launched to monitor and contain any public demonstration.

Journalist Camila Acosta reported on Facebook that during the religious procession, several officials, both men and women, mingled among the attendees in order to prevent anyone from displaying signs or shouting slogans in favor of freedom in Cuba.

According to her testimony, some of these agents surrounded her at certain moments and also kept the activist Leonardo Romero Negrín under constant surveillance, even encircling him within the crowd.

Acosta stated that he witnessed the speed with which officials identify and detain individuals who take on a noticeable role in public gatherings, a practice he compared to the events during the protests on July 11, 2021.

According to the description, one of the alleged leaders of the operation wore a gray shirt and would be identified as Héctor, while another agent, in an orange sweater, stood out for his constant movement and demeanor within the group.

In the photos and videos shared by the journalist, it can also be seen how a man was pulled from the crowd after drawing attention due to his behavior, even though he was only chanting religious slogans.

Acosta indicated that the order to withdraw him would have been given by the alleged head of the operation.

The communicator estimated that around a thousand people participated in the pilgrimage, in a context she described as high tension in the country, marked by social discontent and international pressure.

In his opinion, the deployment revealed the authorities' interest in preventing any public expression that could lead to a protest, even during a religious event.

At the end of the activity, a woman and her son approached the journalist at the Church of the Angel and expressed their hope that the situation in the country will change, trusting that "Christ will bring salvation soon."
