The Cuban leader Miguel Díaz-Canel once again took part in a day of "voluntary work" in Artemisa, as part of the activities organized in celebration of the anniversary of the regime's youth organizations.

The scene, widely shared by official social media, aimed to project commitment and closeness amid an unrelenting crisis.

According to the Presidency, the also First Secretary of the Communist Party of Cuba participated in agricultural work alongside militants, the Young Communists Union (UJC), and other sectors, with the aim of boosting food production.

The message emphasized the need to advance towards so-called "food sovereignty," a goal that has been repeated for years without visible results.

The images of Díaz-Canel "in the furrow and under the sun" tried to reinforce the narrative of collective sacrifice, while the reality of the country reveals a collapsed agricultural system, with a shortage of inputs, low productivity, and an increasing dependence on imports.

In parallel, during the event, membership cards from the UJC were given to 18 young people, signaling the regime's effort to maintain its ideological influence over new generations that are increasingly distanced from the official discourse.

The gesture aligns with recent statements from Díaz-Canel himself, who has urged the youth to “defend Cuba” daily on social media and to fight against what he calls “cultural colonization”, referring to critical opinions outside of state control.

However, for many young Cubans, the problem does not lie in supposed external influences, but in the lack of opportunities, low salaries, power outages, and the inability to build a life plan within the country.

These voluntary work days, far from providing structural solutions, serve as propaganda tools aimed at reinforcing the official narrative, while the crisis continues to drive thousands of young people towards emigration, drugs, or disillusionment.
