The Cuban-American congressman Mario Díaz-Balart stated that the arrival of the Russian tanker Anatoly Kolodkin in Cuba does not signify any setback in the maximum pressure policy of the Trump administration and that this pressure will not only be maintained but will also increase.
The vessel, owned by the Russian state shipping company Sovcomflot — sanctioned by the United States, the European Union, and the United Kingdom — docked in the bay of Matanzas on March 31 with approximately 730,000 barrels of crude oil, becoming the first large shipment of fuel to arrive in Cuba in nearly three months.
Díaz-Balart downplayed the shipment from Miami.
According to the congressman, there has been no formal change in the sanctions policy and the volume of the shipment is insufficient to support the regime.
Even he wagered his house that the dictatorship will not survive under the level of pressure exerted by the Trump administration.
President Donald Trump had previously made it clear that the decision regarding the corrupt leadership, and whether or not a ship reaches them, would depend on the actions of the Cuban regime and the strategic interests of Washington.
