The First Lady Melania Trump appeared this Thursday at the White House to publicly deny any connection to financier Jeffrey Epstein and his accomplice Ghislaine Maxwell, in a statement without any press questions.

The lies that link me to the despicable Jeffrey Epstein must end today," stated Melania Trump during her speech.

"I never had a relationship with Epstein or his accomplice, Ghislaine Maxwell," he added, according to a report from Reuters

The immediate trigger for the hearing was the publication, at the end of January 2026, of a new batch of documents related to the Epstein case by the United States Department of Justice, which included an email from October 2002 signed as "Melania" and addressed to a person identified as "G", presumably Maxwell.

In that message, the sender congratulated Maxwell on her appearance in a profile about Epstein in New York Magazine and wrote: "HELLO! You look great in the photo."

I know you're very busy traveling around the world. How was Palm Beach? I can't wait to go there. Call me when you get back to New York." Maxwell responded by calling her "sweetpea."

Melania acknowledged the existence of the email but downplayed its significance. "My email response to Maxwell cannot be categorized as anything more than casual correspondence," she said, adding that it was "a trivial note."

The First Lady also acknowledged having coincided with Epstein "from time to time" at parties, although she attributed it to shared social circles.

"Circling in social circles is common in New York City and Palm Beach," she noted. However, she denied having been a victim of Epstein, that he had introduced her to Donald Trump, and asserted that she was unaware of the abuses committed.

Melania Trump also mentioned having won defamation lawsuits against The Daily Beast, political strategist James Carville, and the publisher Harper Collins UK, who publicly apologized.

The documents published in January 2026 did not conclusively verify that the email was from Melania Trump, as it was only signed with that name and the recipient's address was partially obscured.

This appearance comes in a context of successive publications of files related to the Epstein case. In December 2025, the Department of Justice published files that included a photograph of Melania with Donald Trump and Ghislaine Maxwell, although it was taken down in less than 24 hours.

In February 2025, an initial batch of declassified documents included contact lists with the names of Ivana and Ivanka Trump, as well as flight records placing Donald Trump on Epstein's private jet on at least seven occasions.

Epstein died in August 2019 in his cell at the Metropolitan Correctional Center in New York, under circumstances officially classified as suicide but widely questioned, while awaiting trial on charges of sex trafficking of minors.

According to Univisión, at the conclusion of her statement, Melania Trump urged the Congress to hold public hearings so that the victims of Epstein could testify. "Each and every woman should have her day to share her story publicly," she stated.
