Trump jokes with children at Easter: "Sell my autographs on eBay for $25,000"

The president Donald Trump had a humorous moment this Monday during the traditional White House Easter Egg Roll, when he told the attending children that they could sell them for $25,000 on eBay that same night.

The event was held in the south garden of the White House with a patriotic theme in honor of the 250th anniversary of the United States, organized by Trump and First Lady Melania Trump for families with children up to 13 years old selected through a free lottery.

While signing drawings and papers for the little ones, Trump told them, "I can sign autographs for you, and tonight you can sell them for $25,000 on eBay."

The president also referenced a girl named Carolina, who apparently showed no interest in his signature, which sparked another joke: "Carolina has zero interest in my autograph."

This is not the first time Trump has made comments about the value of his signature. Last August, during a visit to Louisiana after Hurricane Laura, he stated that his autograph was worth $10,000 on eBay, a figure he raised to $25,000 this Monday.

One of the most talked-about moments of the day occurred when a boy approached him and said, "Donald Trump, you are the best president". The response from the person addressed was immediate and without hesitation: "Thank you, I agree."

The video of the exchange quickly became one of the most talked-about clips of the day, eliciting divided reactions between those who celebrated the president's spontaneity and those who pointed out his characteristic direct style.

At the same event, Trump took the opportunity to attack his predecessor, mocking the use of the autopen (a machine that automatically replicates signatures). "Biden was using the autopen... he was unable to sign his name, so they had to follow him with a big machine. Do you know what it was called? An autopen!" he said in front of the children.

Trump described the scene in detail: "He wouldn't sign. He was unable to sign things. So they would follow him with a big machine, an autopen, and he would make the autopen sign. He would take the paper, hand it to his assistants, and then sign it with an autopen."

The criticism is situated within a broader political controversy.

In October of last year, the House of Representatives Oversight Committee published a report titled "Biden's Autopen Presidency: Decline, Illusion, and Deception in the White House," claiming that advisors to the former president used that machine to sign executive actions and pardons without the direct authorization of the president.

The Justice Department opened an investigation into this matter, although it indicated that it was unlikely Biden would face charges, given that the use of the presidential autopen is considered established law.

The Easter Egg Roll 2026 included egg hunts, story readings, live music, and an exhibition of 150 live chicks from the American Egg Council.

Approximately 40,000 eggs were used during the event, and families received commemorative eggs from the "2026 Official White House Easter Egg Hunt" featuring the signatures of the President and the First Lady.

The tradition of the Easter Egg Roll dates back to 1878, when President Rutherford B. Hayes organized the first official event at the White House.
