The Communist Party of Cuba (PCC) held the International Seminar "The Struggle for Revolutionary Hegemony: Contributions of Fidel Castro in the Cultural Sphere" last Thursday in Havana, an event aimed at several of its supporters to uphold the ideological legacy of the late dictator amidst the suffering currently endured by the Cuban people.

According to the Cuban News Agency, the participants positioned the thoughts of Fidel Castro as the forefront of cultural combat against what they termed an imperialist offensive, in a context where the regime seeks to reinforce its ideological narrative amid growing internal discontent.

The seminar takes place while 80% of the population believes the current crisis is worse than the so-called Special Period of the nineties, highlighting the deep gap between official discourse and the everyday reality of Cubans.

The regime insists that in 65 years, Cuba has achieved social results, arguments it repeats in forums such as this seminar to justify the continuity of the political system to an increasingly skeptical citizenry.

In parallel to these academic events, the regime also mobilizes children in anti-imperialist youth parades, a practice that reflects the strategy of indoctrination from an early age that characterizes the Cuban educational system.

The reality that Cubans experience contrasts sharply with the ideological debates of the party: Cubans cook on the street using firewood due to the lack of gas and electricity, while authorities debate cultural hegemony and Castro's legacy.

As part of the initiatives to keep the thought of the historical leader alive, the regime publishes 23 volumes of Selected Works of Fidel, an editorial project aimed at consolidating the cult of his figure in the Cuban collective imagination.
