The content creator known as Guajirita Cubana published a video documenting the harsh reality of public transportation in the eastern part of the country, amidst the current fuel crisis.
The audiovisual was shared on his Instagram profile. A completely overcrowded white bus is seen, with passengers packed inside and others hanging from the doors, while a group waits at the stop unable to board the vehicle.
The scene was filmed in Buey Arriba and the passengers were attempting to reach Bayamo, in the province of Granma. It depicts what thousands of Cubans face every day to reach their destination and makes it clear that many do not succeed in traveling.
The comments on the reel mix indignation and resignation. "How awful! They can't breathe, they're all crammed together. I'd rather walk. I won't get on there," wrote one user.
In recent months, the government temporarily suspended interprovincial travel from Bayamo, leaving thousands of people without mobility options.
The situation is repeating itself in various provinces. In Ciego de Ávila, only two out of 135 bus routes were operational, while in Camagüey, just one bus a day connected with Havana.
In the face of the collapse of the transportation system in Cuba due to fuel shortages and the poor condition of state vehicles, the bicitaxis and horse-drawn carriages are the most commonly used means of transport in many areas, creating snapshots of a country stuck in time.
