Cuban Foreign Minister Bruno Rodríguez Parrilla published this Thursday on X Cuba's condemnation, expressed at the United Nations General Assembly, of what he described as "the aggression of the US and Israel against the Islamic Republic of Iran," reaffirming the Cuban regime's support for Tehran in front of the full assembly of the multilateral organization.

The session was held within the framework of the debate on the Strait of Hormuz, convened after the veto by China and Russia in the Security Council, and brought together delegations from around the world at the UN headquarters in New York.

Rodríguez Parrilla described the attacks against Iran as a violation of the UN Charter and International Law, and advocated for "the prevailing of dialogue, the principle of good neighborliness, and peaceful, friendly, and cooperative relations between Iran and Arab States, based on full respect for sovereignty, territorial integrity, and the security of all parties."

The Cuban chancellor also took the opportunity at the international forum to denounce Washington on another front: "We also condemn the aggressive stance of the U.S. in our hemisphere, violating the Proclamation of Latin America and the Caribbean as a Zone of Peace and its threat to militarily attack Cuba; while seeking to suffocate an entire people, which it has subjected to a brutal energy blockade, using fabricated pretexts."

This stance is not new for the Cuban regime, which condemned the joint airstrikes by the US and Israel against Iran from the very day they occurred, on February 28, 2026, when Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei and other high-ranking Iranian officials were killed.

On that occasion, Díaz-Canel described the bombings as a flagrant violation of International Law and the Charter of the UN, and the regime requested the Security Council to intervene urgently to halt the offensive.

Rodríguez Parrilla's intervention at the UN occurred on the same day that Díaz-Canel called on the Cuban people to be ready to face serious threats, including military aggression, in the context of the 65th anniversary of the Bay of Pigs invasion.

Cuba's support for Iran is part of a long-standing strategic alliance that includes Russia, Venezuela, Nicaragua, and North Korea, characterized by systematic mutual support in UN forums and a shared anti-imperialist narrative.

In the same debate, the US representative to the UN, Mike Waltz, stated that "the Strait of Hormuz cannot be held hostage by the Iranian regime," in a position that is diametrically opposed to that of the Cuban regime.

Bilateral tensions between Havana and Washington have intensified in recent weeks following statements from President Trump, who declared on March 27, "Cuba is next" and indicated days later that we might stop in Cuba after we finish with this, referring to the conflict with Iran.
