The 12-year-old boy Raimiel Salazar Cobas was found this Sunday in the Siboney beach area of Santiago de Cuba, two days after he went missing from his home in the José Martí district.

At the time this note was written, the boy was at the Siboney Police unit, in the coastal area of the city, according to his mother, Katerine Cobas Olivares, who confirmed this to the communicator Yosmany Mayeta, who had shared the alert on his Facebook wall.

Raimiel disappeared on April 17 around 2:00 PM, when he left his home in building S42, apartment 6, Micro 7. He took advantage of the fact that his mother was looking for medication after a recent surgery and his uncle was asleep, without either of them noticing the child's departure.

The minor, who is about 1.20 meters tall and studies at the José Manuel Isla Special School, was carrying a backpack, which may have allowed him to change clothes and complicated his identification during the search.

His family informed the authorities that he has a history of leaving home or school to go to his father's house.

The formal complaint to the PNR was filed on Saturday, April 18 at 2:00 PM at the Micro 9 unit, José Martí district, where an investigation file was opened.

However, it was the public dissemination on social media that accelerated the discovery.

"Thank you, Mayeta, to you and to everyone who supported me," the mother expressed to the journalist.

This is not the first time that this type of citizen mobilization has proven decisive.

In a similar case that occurred in Santiago de Cuba last November, the mother of a missing child reported police inaction before social media propelled the search. Ultimately, the minor was found in Songo-La Maya and returned to his family.
